RECICLARTE and Ideas for recycling plastic bottles

A group of my students are entering a big contest to use creativity to solve global warming and are in the final stages of getting their projects ready. Because of all their projects passing through my office, I got to chatting with one of my co-workers today about recycling ideas. She showed me some ideas that she found while looking for ideas for a recyling contest that her kids will enter. I was in awe of the plastic bottle creations at the decorailumina site such as the curtain shown here.

The site's in Spanish, but the pictures speak for themselves. Check out the other projects too: http://www.decorailumina.com/sala/como-decorar-con-botellas-plasticas.html

Yay, now I have a good excuse to eat more cookies (see cookie-wrapper coinpurse post) and drink more soda! Isn't recycling fun!

Goin' on a lana hunt!

My friend Amber messaged me last week asking about where to buy yarn here in Lima. So I offered to take her to some of my favourite local lana shops in the center this past Friday. We called a couple more friends and we were off.

The day began with me spilling diet coke all over my white t-shirt, so it was off to the Indian market to find a new top. I quickly found a beautiful tunic for 25 soles (about $7)... Perfect! There are so many beautiful things in that place and the prices are irresistible. Any ideas for repurposing Indian scarves and bandanas btw? At 2-3 soles each they're hard to pass up, but you can only have so many.

We went all around the galleries surrounding the Mercado Central and found crafter's paradise. Amber found her yarn, I found some beads and findings I was looking for (like a kilo of them) and everyone went home with something interesting.

No pictures this time because the camera's broken... hopefully for the next adventure...
